WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 21, 2026

Dear Villano Families,

As a reminder, schools are closed tomorrow. I wish a meaningful Yom Kippur to those who are observing. We also have our first one-session day on Wednesday, September 23rd.

Our teachers and students are busy. September is in full swing with both school and extracurricular activities. Parents are encouraged to check teachers' individual ParentSquare messages and classroom Google Sites. My notes provide a broader overview of school happenings, school and district notices, and other community information.

CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS

Fourth graders in Mrs. Doran's class used ropes and spring toys to model waves. Students then used their observations to better understand how sound waves travel.

Students in Ms. Hill's Cross Curricular classes worked with prime and composite numbers in a variety of ways. First, students used the Sieve of Eratosthenes to cross out (or "sieve out") the multiples of each prime number, starting with the first prime number, 2. Students found that in using this method, any number that remains uncrossed at the end is a prime number. Further activities included creating prime and composite number charts, completing mazes and playing games. The ability to understand and identify prime and composite numbers is an essential sklll as students move into future mathematical concepts, such as prime factorization.

LUNCH INFORMATION

Lunches will be available for purchase beginning the first day of school from our food service provider, Pomptonian. Click HERE for the back-to-school packet directly from Pomptonian.

There are three choices daily: a hot meal, a selection of cold sandwiches, or a bagel/yogurt bag. Students must have money in their accounts to purchase a meal. Information on how to add money to your child's lunch account can be found HERE.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Villano Book Talks

PTA-sponsored monthly book talks will be held in the Villano Learning Lab for grades 4-6 at 8:00 a.m.

The first book talk, Wings of Fire: The Dragonet Prophecy (book #1), will be held on Friday, October 23rd.
